Irresistible Chocolate Smoothie Bowl
Those mornings when you wake up and feel like eating chocolate 😄
All you have to do is to make an irresistible chocolate breakfast!
Smoothie bowl ingredients:
- 1/2 avocado (preferably frozen)
- 1-2 Tbsp good quality cacao powder (If someone is intolerant to cacao, this can be replaced with carob powder – as carob powder has a stronger taste, start with one teaspoon, and adjust accordingly)
- 1 Tbsp shelled hemp seeds
- pinch of quality salt
- 2 pitted dates (can be replaced by stevia drops for the zero caloric option, or maple syrup, or honey)
- 1.5 cup coconut milk (or coconut water together with the flesh)
- 1-2 teaspoon gelatinised Maca powder (optional)
- 1 teaspoon Ashwagandha
- 1 scoop of protein powder (optional) – my very favourite is THIS.
“All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn’t hurt.”
Method:
Blend everything in a blender until smooth and pour into a bowl.
Top up with banana, coconut flakes, cacao nibs, hemp seeds and a pinch of chilli flakes if desired (it is an utterly delicious and very addictive combination!)
Feel welcome to experiment with different toppings like blueberries, gluten-free oats, coconut flakes and chocolate shavings – use your creativity – the sky is the limit!
Maca powder – Maca is a cruciferous vegetable and belongs to the same family as broccoli or cabbage. Maca’s origin is Peru, and traditionally Peruvians used Maca for anything from energy and stamina, to boosting libido. In my personal opinion, Maca has a taste similar to cookies 🙂
Benefits of Maca root:
- Maca can help with depression, stress and anxiety (source)
- It’s an adaptogen (source)
- May boost stamina and athletic endurance (source)
- Powerful antioxidants and nutrients help with the skin cells renewal, as well as smooth out the skin texture – often used to improve acne (source)
- Maca might improve mood, focus, memory, drive and motivation (source)
- Natural antioxidant – boost levels of glutathione and SOD (superoxide dismutase) – these are two major disease fighters in the body (source)
- It may be helpful for endocrine and hormone balance (source)
- It may help relieve symptoms of menopause (source)
